


Dr. Shruti Naik
Immunologist

On October 22, HHEF welcomed Dr. Shruti Naik as the kick-off speaker for our Girls' STEAM Series. Dr. Naik is an Indian-American immunologist and stem-cell biologist helping to advance our knowledge of the immune system. Her work supports the development of novel therapeutic strategies in a range of conditions, such as psoriasis, chronic wounds, and cancer. Named a L’Oreal Women in Science Fellow in 2016, she has produced a series of interviews with women in science to inspire the next generation of women in STEM. She will share her commitment to redefining our perception of what a scientist 'looks like' and what it means to be smart.

Dr. Kristen Marhaver

Dr. Kristen Marhaver whose lab in Curaçao is leading the way in restoring the ocean’s coral reefs. Dr. Marhaver discussed her life’s journey with HHHS and KVMS students. Dr. Marhaver showed the students photos and videos of underwater expeditions, and the students even got to see her feed a baby coral via her onscreen microscope.

Structural Engineer

In December 2020, HHEF welcomed structural engineer Roma Agrawal, who among other major engineering projects also worked on The Shard, the tallest building in Western Europe.

Dr. Laura Boykin
Computational Biologist

Dr. Boykin is a regarded computational biologist helping small farmers in East Africa use genomics and supercomputing to mitigate the devastating impacts of invasive insects on the cassava crop. Cassava is a root vegetable that nearly 800 million people worldwide rely on for sustenance and income.
