HHEF Presents a Special Advance Screening of ‘Against the Sun,’ a New Film Co-Produced by Hatboro-Horsham Graduate Kurt Graver
“Brunch and a Movie” to be held in Ambler on January 18 prior to the national release.
HORSHAM (December 29, 2014) — In one of the most harrowing true stories of World War II, three US Navy airmen crash land their torpedo bomber in the South Pacific and find themselves on a tiny life raft, surrounded by open ocean. No food. No water. No hope of rescue. Against incredible odds, these three virtual strangers must survive storms, sharks, starvation and each other as they try to sail more than a thousand miles to safety. Their story is told in the new film, “Against the Sun,” scheduled for a national release in selected cities on January 24 and is co-produced by Kurt Graver, a 2004 graduate of Hatboro-Horsham High School. Philadelphia-area residents can get a sneak peek at the film on January 18 during a special event in Ambler.
The Hatboro-Horsham Educational Foundation (HHEF) is pleased to present “Brunch and a Movie” at The Ambler Theater, 108 E. Butler Avenue, Ambler, Pennsylvania on Sunday, January 18. Brunch begins promptly at 9:30 a.m., followed by the film and “talk back” at 10:30 a.m. Tickets are $35 and may be purchased at the Ambler Theater box office or online at www.amblertheater.org/films/against-the-sun. All proceeds, including raffle basket sales, benefit the HHEF.
“I am delighted and proud to announce that Kurt Graver will be our guest speaker at the fundraiser on January 18,” shares Wayne Graver, who serves on the board of the HHEF, a nonprofit organization that provides funding for programs that enhance the learning experience of our students and engage the community at large. “My son is excited to return to his roots and share his experiences in developing and creating the film, along with providing a multi-media presentation depicting some of the ‘insider’ tips on how this mid-ocean, true story was made.”
Kurt Graver is the manager of development at The American Film Company, based in Santa Monica, California, which produces films about heroic but little known true stories from American history. After graduating from Fordham University with a degree in Communications, he followed his passion and began a career in the film industry.
The film is directed by Brian Falk, written by Brian Falk and Mark David Keegan and stars Garret Dillahunt, Tom Felton and Jake Abel. The trailer can be viewed here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=8MYsgLqtEgk.
