Travel back in time to ancient China with Princess
Djeow “the smallest one” as she attempts
to rescue her father, the Emperor from the clutches
of evil men who would seek to have him imprisoned and
rule over his kingdom. Djeow is considered unimportant
in her long and impressive family line, she is certainly
no threat to the evil men but, in her own quiet way,
steadily changes the hands of fate for the entire kingdom.
Children and adults alike will be enchanted with the
lessons of love and loyalty that Djeow displays, proving
that even the smallest among us, can be the one to create
the biggest change. Choreographed by Artistic Director
Joy Delaney Capponi, featuring the unparalleled dancing
of Philadelphia Dance Theatre. You won’t want
to miss this culturally rich experience of dance, costumes,
sets, music and traditional folk tale.
As a special treat, author Jane Yolen will
be appearing live before each performance for a reading
of her book, the inspiration for this ballet. Ms.
Yolen is the recipient of the Caldecott Medal and has
authored more than 170 books. She will also be available
between 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. for book signings, and all
ticket-holders are invited to join in on kite-making
and other traditional Chinese crafts. Refreshments will
be available.
